2010 Australian Stencil Art Prize
The 2010 Australian Stencil Art Prize is now open for entries. The deadline for entering is 1 August 2010. An exhibition of finalists and winning works will be held at Oh Really Gallery in Newtown, Sydney from 11 – 21 November 2010. There is a $2000 cash prize for the winner.
WHY A STENCIL ART PRIZE?
The Australian Stencil Art Prize began as just an idea in early 2008. It grew out of discussions about the calibre of stencil art in Sydney’s Innerwest and a desire to see more of it. Late in 2008 we received a small start up grant from Marrickville Council and an Art Prize was born.
THIS ART PRIZE AIMS TO:
• Recognise and reward stencil artists
• Provide recognition for stencil art as an artform in its own right
• Archive stencil art
WE ARE:
Jacinta Walpole, Director
Jacinta has a background in community radio and worked on the start up of FBi Radio in Sydney for seven years. She has also worked extensively on arts festivals (noise, LOUD, TINA). For six years she ran the National Student Film & Video Festival which toured approximately 20 university campuses each year. More recently Jacinta has run Sweet Media and worked in fundraising, sponsorship and marketing for youth targeted events.
Nicholas Fintan, Curator and Coordinator
Nicholas is a Sydney artist who recently exhibited as a finalist in the Blake Prize. He has held several solo exhibitions of his works and is in numerous private collections. Nicholas has curated over 15 exhibitions in the past 2 years. This Art Prize was his idea. He’s not a stencil artist, but he loves art. You can find his work here.
